Be your own life admin
If you know me well, or follow me on Instagram you'll know that I do something every single day - journaling. Since adding this simple habit into my daily regime I have felt more in control, relived of unnecessary stress and on track with my daily routine. I personally keep both a book for the admin side of things which includes a to-do list, the date, important things to complete etc. Where my journal/gratitude book includes multiple prompts to help me reflect on what happened throughout the day and goals for the future. For myself, I believe that journaling and mindfulness go hand in hand to stay connected with your true self, and indulge self-care. When I include meditation and journaling into my every day routine, I instantly feel relived and ready for the day ahead. Below I'll share with you the benefits and some journaling prompts to help you witness the effects that this simple habit can have on your wellbeing.
There is no doubt that there a multitude of benefits with journaling and keeping a diary, here are some that have noticeably made a difference to my life:
Clarify your thoughts and feelings. Do you ever seem all jumbled up inside, unsure of what you want or feel? Taking a few minutes to jot down your thoughts and emotions (no editing!) will quickly get you in touch with your internal world.
Know yourself better. By writing routinely you will get to know what makes you feel happy and confident. You will also become clear about situations and people who are toxic for you — important information for your emotional well-being.
Reduce stress. Writing about anger, sadness and other painful emotions helps to release the intensity of these feelings. By doing so you will feel calmer and better able to stay in the present.
Solve problems more effectively. Typically we problem solve from a left-brained, analytical perspective. But sometimes the answer can only be found by engaging right-brained creativity and intuition. Writing unlocks these other capabilities, and affords the opportunity for unexpected solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems.
Journaling helps us figure out who we are, what we need and what we want. It can help us make better decisions, and focus on the very things that support us in taking compassionate care of ourselves and others.
Now I know it can be daunting putting pen to paper and writing about yourself and your experiences, in fact when I first started I didn't know where to begin. Here are some of my favourite journaling prompts to get you one step closer to self-discovery and knowledge:
What do I love about today?
What am I grateful for?
Who can I appreciate or thank?
What do I need to let go of?
What’s one topic you need to learn more about to help you live a more fulfilling life? (Then learn about it.)
If you've read all the way to here…I want you to set a goal to try and journal every night! If you have any questions or want to share your improvements and experiences I'd love to hear all about it! Just send me a DM or sign up to my mailing system and I'll get back to you as soon as possible!
Lots of love,
